Set up alarms on Android
On Android, apps can't ring on time or appear on a locked screen by default. Each of these abilities is a separate system permission, so Mom Clock asks for a few of them before your Promise alarms and reminders can work reliably.
Why each permission is needed
| Permission | Why Mom Clock needs it |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Shows your Promise reminders and alarm alerts. |
| Alarms & reminders | Lets your alarms and reminders go off at the exact time you set, instead of being delayed by Android. Blocking schedules also use it to start and end on time. |
| Full-screen notifications | Shows the full-screen alarm when your phone is locked, so you can see and stop it. Required on Android 14 and later. |
Mom Clock only uses these permissions for your alarms, reminders, and blocking schedules.
Turn on alarm permissions
When you set an alarm
- Turn on Remind me or Alarm in a Promise.
- When asked, tap Allow to let Mom Clock send notifications.
- If Android opens Alarms & reminders, turn on Allow setting alarms and reminders, then go back.
- On Android 14 and later, if Android opens Full-screen notifications, turn on the option for Mom Clock, then go back.
Anytime from Settings
- Go to Me → Settings → Permissions.
- Tap Notifications and each permission under Alarm that isn't turned on yet, then follow the prompts.
My alarm still doesn't ring
- Make sure Notifications and every permission under Alarm in Me → Settings → Permissions are turned on.
- Check that your phone isn't muted for alarms and that Do Not Disturb allows alarms.
- Some phone makers stop apps that run in the background. Follow the background steps in Blocking apps to keep Mom Clock running.
- If alarms stop after your phone restarts, allow auto-launch for Mom Clock.
